Welcome to the sixth edition of The Newsletter Nerd Show!
This is a fortnightly podcast show that celebrates stories of independent newsletter creators across the globe🎙️
Every time an episode goes live, a newsletter will greet you in your inbox with the summary so you don’t miss out on the fun.

For Anirudha Basak, time slows down in his ancestral city of Kolkata (previously Calcutta). A place where people take their own sweet time for banter and tea, it is the city’s āddā that he fondly reminisces.
Āddā is a salon-like gathering at which thoughts and persuasions of the day could be discussed in a good-natured, if sometimes vociferous, manner.
After he signed and sealed his love letter to the cultural capital of India, Anirudha went on to tell me about his banking newsletter - Bank on Basak. What began as a news repository for his personal reference soon became a trusted source that simplifies the Indian banking landscape for the rest of us.
From the mistakes that young people make when investing to the discipline of consistency, this conversation branches out and runs a wide course, not unlike the Hooghly river.
Hit that play button to dig into the conversation!
For this segment of the show, I lovingly hold the guests at virtual gunpoint and ask them to pick their favourite newsletter edition*. If I had to put my finger on a GIF, it’d be this:
Kidddding. You know I would never do it (: At least not like that. Let’s just say they voluntarily pick an edition of their choice and read an excerpt from the same.
And Anirudha picked the piece he calls ‘Lack of Innovation’(it’s about cross-border payments, y’all!)

*But seriously, ask any creator to name their favourite piece and watch them gasp a little and lose their mind, even if momentarily.
This is that critically acclaimed (who we kidding?) part of the show where I ask Anirudha questions relating to newsletters and he answers them with a Yes or No. Alright then, let’s go!
… before we go, this is what the GIF below means - if the llama accompanying the question turns red, it means Anirudha’s answer is No. And if it turns green, it means his answer is Yes.
Let’s GO!
Time Stamp: Head to 29:16 in the podcast if you’re a fan of the theatre and want the complete experience 🎭🥁
And with that llamaighty jump, we’ve reached the end of this episode.
