Pop Quiz: What is elusive when you need it but appears out of nowhere and scares the bejesus out of you when you least expect it?
No, Dobby is not the answer we're looking for. (Even though it makes perfect sense!)
The answer we DO want is - Love.
Stay with me here even though I've just committed the cliché sin because the person you're about to meet today in The Newsletter Nerd Show is someone who found love in a marketing agency of all places—literally and figuratively!
Literally, because that's where he met his now wife (Where are the Jim and Pam fans at?👋) And figuratively because it led him to find his other true love - marketing.
Meet Patrick Icasas, the name and face behind the 'My Marketing Moment' newsletter.
An introvert who took his time to warm up to other people, Patrick is one of the nicest people I've EVER met. (You can say hi to him here)
Now then, let me get the pleasantries out of the way so you can dig into the good stuff:
This is episode #1 of The Newsletter Nerd Show.
Moving forward, every episode will have three segments, which you'll figure out shortly.
Oh, and before I forget, there's one rule to get the complete Newsletter Nerd Show experience - sit back and enjoy :)
Here's a summary of what went on in the last two segments:
Yoo hoo hoo and a bottle of rum; Reading Room, here we come! (Thank you, Captain Haddock)
Reading Room is a segment where the guest—Patrick in this episode—does a reading of a specific portion from their newsletter. Because it is one thing to read somebody’s words on a digital screen and a whole different thing to see those same words come to life when they read it out themselves!
Why do you think authors do it in a book launch? It’s their secret weapon to bewitch unsuspecting victims (read book hoarders) like us. Okay, that was dramatic, but:
Patrick chose the very first newsletter he sent out for this segment and it captures in a surreal way what it feels like to kickstart anything on your own, including a newsletter.
(Time Stamp: Head to 12:06 for the reading!)
This segment is a twist on the very wretched age-old game that has the potential to destroy the reputation you’ve so carefully built all your life.
The twist here is that all questions are related to newsletters and nobody’s reputation is on the line (or is it?).
I ask the guest a few questions and they answer with a simple yes or no. If (and ONLY if) they’re interested, they further elaborate their answers.
I strongly suggest listening to the episode if you don’t want to miss out on the occasional dramatic background scores and get the complete experience.
(Time Stamp: Head to 14:16 for this segment)
But, if you responded better to visual cues as a child and prefer to keep it the same way, I made a visual representation for you!
The rule is simple - As you read each question, wait for the accompanying llama to reveal its true colour.
A green llama means a YES and a red llama means a NO.
Note: If you’re reading this instead of listening to the episode (which you should REALLY consider doing🥺), don’t forget to mentally add ‘have you ever’ in front of each statement.
Alright then. Here’s Patrick:
If you ask me, I think he did pretty well. (Except for you know what🎣, but let’s look past it since it was just that one time)
And with that, it’s a wrap for today’s episode!
Don’t forget to check out Patrick’s newsletter here and subscribe if you like what you see.
Before you leave, here’s a favour I’m going to ask - it’d mean the world to me if you can hit that reply button and let me know what you thought about today’s newsletter!
Want to see yourself or someone you know featured on the show? Hit that reply button.
Liked something? Didn’t like something? Hit that reply button!
Want to share the love? Hit that reply bu…

AMAZING, AMAZING, and AMAZING! If this is not 'how to creepily' describe a newsletter nerd is then I don't know what is! Haha. JK. This is the best start to a series. ❤️❤️
