Most people who work independently confine themselves to titles like ‘freelancer’ or ‘consultant’.
But Dan Nelken is not most people.
When Dan realized job promotion announcements were rampant on LinkedIn, he decided to have some fun too!
And that’s when he gave himself this title:
No kidding. You can go ahead and check out his LinkedIn profile right now!
While the title of a Chief Creative Ding-Dong is a clear indicator of Dan’s creativity, he didn’t embrace creativity from the start.
“I came late to it myself,” he said when he was on the show.
Today, he runs a newsletter called A Self-Help Guide for Creatives and inspires creative people across the world.
Tune in to see how a non-existent course led Dan to create his newsletter, what he thinks of creative habits vs goals, how the word ‘gigglemug’ was casually slipped in, and a lot more!

The second segment of the show, Reading Room is where the guest reads out an excerpt from their newsletter. And here’s why I love this segment - once I hear a person read out something, their reading voice is stuck in my head!
And from then on, every tweet and newsletter edition of theirs that I see, I begin to read it in their voice. It’s crazy but it’s true.
In this episode, Dan chose to read out the one where he experimented with a new structure that he calls the three somethings.

This segment is a twist on the very wretched age-old game that has the potential to destroy the reputation you’ve so carefully built all your life.
The twist here is that all questions are related to newsletters and nobody’s reputation is on the line (or is it?). I ask the guest a few questions and they answer with a simple yes or no.
I strongly suggest listening to the episode if you don’t want to miss out on the complete experience🥁
But, if you responded better to visual cues as a child and prefer to keep it the same way, I made a visual representation for you!
As you read each question, wait for the accompanying llama to reveal its true colour.
A green llama means a YES and a red llama means a NO.

And with that llamighty jump, we’ve wrapped up today’s episode. Don’t forget to say hi to Dan here and subscribe to his newsletter here.
I’ll see you again in two weeks :)
